After a few delays, the third and final episode of our Supergiant Deep Look is here, with an examination of 2017's sleeper hit Pyre. A curious blend of visual novel, RPG, and sports, Pyre follows a group of exiles called the Nightwings, as they attempt to earn the right to escape a purgatorial plane called The Downside...through some sick slam dunks.
In this mini-episode, Robert invites illustrator, whackademic, and prankster Justyna Burzynska for a discussion of Dominique Pamplemousse, the claymation point and click musical starring a genderqueer private eye. Even if you don't like musicals, there's a lot to enjoy here.
Surprise! It's your third week of MisanthroPlay in a row. This week, Robert and Alvin talk through Virginia, the cinematic debut from Variable State. We're both of the opinion that Virginia is a game best experienced blind, so if you haven't played it yet, stop right here and come back once you've finished, because we spoil the heck out of this one.
In short, Virginia is pretty damn excellent, and we think you'll enjoy both the game and this episode. Don't forget to send us a message with your interpretation of the game's symbolism for a chance to be read on our next mailbag episode.
